2020: Mayflower 400th Anniversary

In 2020 the Reading Rooms trustees invited local junior schools to create an exhibition to mark the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower to America, carrying four Billericay residents on board. Each school focussed on a different aspect of the Mayflower voyage. Brightside focused on the ship and the things the Pilgrims would have taken to the New World. Buttsbury looked at the fashions and professions of people in the early 1600s. St John's considered how the Mayflower's voyage might have been reported had there been newspapers at the time. St Peter's investigated the Pilgrims' backgrounds and how they may have felt and thought about their journey.
